The Ogburn-Stouffer Center fills a crucial role in attaining a deeper understanding of society. As experts in recent advances in quantitative methodology, we collaborate directly with NORC social scientists to craft studiesthat will produce meaningful data and, by extension, impactful findings. A core mission is to promote the training of graduate students through involvement in all phases of large-scale survey research.
The Center grew out of a decades-long relationship between NORC and Sociology faculty at the University of Chicago, playing a major role in the application of social network approaches to the study of social life. This collaborative approach is exemplified by the ongoing National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project, and our work also extends to such topics as political attitudes, community, health, social inequality, and social structure.
