James Iveniuk

Pronouns: He/Him

Senior Research Scientist
James studies social networks, cognition, and health equity over the life course.

He specializes in producing reliable data for the community of researchers interested in health, aging, and health equity – especially by race. To do this, James leverages his skills in quantitative social science and publication record in high-quality journals, while building relationships with other scientists in the field.

James' primary affiliation at NORC is with the National Social Life Health and Aging Project (NSHAP), a flagship NIH study that collects data on social relationships, cognition, and biomeasures in the context of a nationally-representative probability sample.  He has published extensively using NSHAP data, but perhaps more importantly, has worked for more than ten years to replenish and renew the data as an ongoing public resource for health scientists.

James previously worked for four years at the Wellesley Institute, a health equity and health policy research center in Canada, where he focused on health inequities by race. He also worked with the Ontario Center for Workforce Innovation, Software Carpentry (a computer science education company), and as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Toronto’s School of Public Health, focusing on HIV and social relationships.
