Rebecca is a leader in health communication AI, developing digital products, strategies, and research that draw on her skills as a health communicator in clinical practice and her experience developing digital products for tech companies. Her work focuses on bridging the gap between clinical medicine and digital health information, and she offers a unique blend of knowledge in digital and AI-focused health communication solutions.
Rebecca contributes to NORC’s Center for Health Communication Science and co-leads the Health Communication AI project with colleague Amelia Burke-Garcia. This project encompasses thought leadership, research, and AI tool development to create digital systems that can deliver personalized, empathetic, and accurate health communications in online environments. The Health Communication AI project will study real world effects of user interactions with health AI tools and focuses an ethical lens on the deployment of generative AI for health communication.
While working for Medcase, a med/tech consulting firm, Rebecca led COVID-19 content operations for Google, helping to ensure high-quality information on Google Search products. She pioneered development and management of a digital product for vaccines, work that won a Google Impact Award. Rebecca also consults for leading AI companies on medical red-teaming, improving the safety and accuracy of commercial generative AI for medical and health purposes. She is a dedicated clinician with 15 years of clinical experience and is an expert health communicator in clinical practice. She has given presentations for the American Academy of Pediatrics, is a member of The Council for Quality Health Communication and an advisor for the Stanford Pediatrics Digital Health Consortium.
