As a principal research scientist, Stephen leads data collection and quality assurance activities, statistical analysis, evaluations, and reporting activities associated with survey and administrative data. He has extensive experience working with large datasets, including data mining applications.
He led data delivery and dissemination for the Gates Millennium Scholars Tracking and Longitudinal Study, the Survey of Earned Doctorates, the Survey of Doctorate Recipients, and the High School and Beyond Survey. Currently, he is the project director for the College Board Admitted Class Evaluation Services™ system, which produces semi-automated admission and course placement validity studies for institutions.
Before joining NORC, Stephen worked at SPSS Inc. (now IBM SPSS), where he trained and consulted with researchers, government agencies, and private sector companies on issues involving the applications of statistics and data analysis. He also wrote and led statistical and data mining training courses.
