NORC’s Timothy Johnson Receives AAPOR’s Award for Lifetime Achievement
CHICAGO, May 23, 2023 — NORC is proud to announce that Timothy Johnson, a NORC senior fellow in Methodology & Quantitative Social Sciences, has received the 2023 Award for Exceptionally Distinguished Achievement from the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR).
The AAPOR Award is the association’s lifetime achievement award. It is granted for outstanding contributions to the field of public opinion research, including advances in theory, empirical research, and methods; improvements in ethical standards; and promotion of understanding among the public, media, and policymakers.
Johnson’s work has focused on sources of measurement and nonresponse error. He has also invested considerable effort in examining the health behaviors of disadvantaged populations, including homeless persons, immigrants, cultural minorities, and mental health populations.
Johnson is a professor emeritus at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a past president of AAPOR, the Midwest Association for Public Opinion Research, and the Association of Academic Survey Research Organizations. His leadership of AAPOR’s Transparency Initiative, including the development of requirements, training, and outreach plans, and overall implementation of its vision, were essential to its success.
We congratulate Johnson on being honored with this accolade.
