NORC has worked to elevate diverse perspectives in its rigorous social science research since its founding in 1941. The organization conducted some of the first-ever national studies on racial attitudes and opinions in the 1940s and has collected data on aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion over the last eight decades. The Center on Equity Research will build on that tradition, ensuring that inclusive and equitable research extends beyond subject matter and populations studied, embedding it into NORC’s work and services across the entire research cycle and integrating participatory and community-based best practices.
Located in the Bridge at NORC department, the Center on Equity Research integrates inclusive and equitable research and practice across NORC. The Center facilitates partnerships, knowledge sharing, and capacity building across departments, projects, and proposals to embed inclusive and equitable research principles in every phase of the research process. In addition, the Center conducts its own research, initiatives, and experiments while collaborating with NORC’s chief diversity officer and the Office of Diversity, Racial Equity, and Inclusion.
