Energy consumption affects everything from national security to economic and agriculture policy to the ongoing national debate over climate change. Since NORC’s initial examinations of food and gas rationing during World War II, our researchers have played an integral role in studying energy consumption and informing energy and climate policy.
NORC conducted the Residential Energy Consumption Survey, the most comprehensive source of home energy usage data to date. We also conducted a weekly survey of gasoline and diesel fuel prices from a nationally representative panel of gas stations for the Energy Information Administration. The Associated Press–NORC Center for Public Affairs Research conducted a nationally representative household survey to measure public opinion about key energy issues in the United States. Most recently, NORC’s AmeriSpeak team helped coordinate America in One Room, which convened a representative group of American voters to discuss climate issues.
