An important avenue of inquiry for NORC is examining the diversity of religious beliefs in the United States and around the world and how those beliefs influence social and political opinions, as well as quality-of-life measures. The National Congregations Study documents the work, programs, and activities of America’s religious congregations. The Landmark Spirituality and Health Survey gathered baseline data— including information about subjects’ religious beliefs and practices and bio measures such as weight and blood pressure—that will allow researchers to examine the connection between faith and health. And NORC has partnered with Brandeis University on a series of studies of Jewish communities in cities across the country. The studies seek to understand community members’ Jewish identities, diversity, needs, and participation in various activities.
