Problem

Public health leaders need research-backed insights to inform Healthy People, the nation’s public health agenda.

The Healthy People initiative is a collaboration of federal health agencies, state partners, the public health community, and the general public led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP). Released every decade since 1980, sets data-driven national objectives to improve health and well-being. Healthy People 2030, the fifth iteration, continues those efforts with approximately 350 core objectives for the next decade.

Successful implementation of Healthy People requires careful planning to ensure the initiative reflects current thinking on key public health issues and that all voices are heard throughout the process.

Solution

NORC is providing research and technical assistance to support Healthy People 2030.

In close partnership with ODPHP, NORC provides technical assistance and analytic support to the Healthy People initiative. NORC conducts research on a wide range of topics, including health equity and health disparities, public health accreditation, and the implementation of Healthy People, to inform the development of the initiative. In addition, we support implementation through development of tools and resources, hosting large public facing webinars, and providing support for Healthy People partner initiatives.

Result

NORC's insights are advancing Healthy People 2030 goals.

NORC’s research has provided important research contributions for Healthy People 2030 priority areas, including health equity and the social determinants of health. During the development of Healthy People 2030, NORC provided support for over 100 Committee and subcommittee meetings to support the Secretary’s Advisory Committee for National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Objectives for 2030. Since the launch of Healthy People 2030, NORC has helped ODPHP administer the Healthy People 2030 Champion program, which are partner organizations committed to working towards Healthy People goals.
