Conservation agencies recognize the need for information regarding the economic impact of fishing, hunting, and wildlife-associated recreation. Without this information, it is difficult for fish and wildlife agencies to guide and manage conservation programs and defend the need for resources.
NORC uses advanced survey methodologies to reach key populations including conservationists and outdoor enthusiasts, as well as surveying the general public about their conservation behaviors.
The National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation was created and has been conducted at the request of The Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies every five years since 1955. NORC modernized the data collection and incorporated a multi-mode and adaptive survey design to reduce costs and improve representation of the population even with lower response rates.
The AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, in collaboration with the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, conducted a national survey of adults to gain a better understanding of the American public’s views on global warming and other environmental issues.
